How to sell your expertise online
I create educational videos like the one above (1 hour to make) to teach subjects like accounting and business management to people using my low cost replacement for small business accounting software such as Quickbooks or PeachTree. Everyone should master the essential skills of turning what they know into digital content and how to market and sell it online to a worldwide audience. The great thing about creating your own digital information product is that you make higher margins when you sell it and if you listen to why customers buy it then you can use these reasons too improve on what you have done and as messages to sell it to other customers.
When I first saw how simple it was to create a video and upload it to YouTube or turn it into a podcast it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and I concluded I should share this essential skill with everyone. These platforms are absolutely brilliant for selling, promoting and building a reputation for whatever information products you have in mind, regardless of whether its how to upgrade your airline seat or replace your small business accounting software.
I cannot stress enough that the key to a good video is to use a technique called storyboarding, it sets out what you will say, how you will say it and helps you develop the detail of your ideas. If you are familiar with Microsoft powerpoint or apple keynote then you already have some of the skills you will need to get started making your first online video tutorial or presentation. You do not have to incur any expense what so ever to create a storyboard, produce a professional quality video and get your work online, in front of your target market and start selling it.
The tool you are going to need to produce your video in podcast, YouTube or downloadable video format is called TechSmith Camtasia and you can get a 30 day free trial, but whatever you do don’t download and install it yet. The reason I said not to download the TechSmith software yet was to make sure you maximised your use of the trial to create and sell your first video.
OK now you have to do the homework I have set you in learning some of the tools I have mentioned above and in the next couple of days I will be publishing to this blog (owners permitting) a detailed set of instructions on how I create small business accounting software videos.
